As a total beginner, I was overwhelmed trying to pick out my first "real" electric guitar. My learning would be so much slower on some cheap, poor-playing instrument. As a part-time performer, I need gear that looks, sounds and plays pro but doesn't demolish my budget. I was using a "vintage" Strat copy that never stayed in tune and had terrible frets. For not much more I got a Fojill Strat-style with top-notch hardware and playability. Now I have a guitar that really inspires me to practice and write new material.
